6:40
good morning Hawks all right big shout out to a group of you yesterday you
6:45
approached me during the day and alerted me to potentially harmful situation so
6:50
you helped make Hillview a better place and a safer place so much appreciated
6:54
and we got the help for a student that needed it so appreciate that very much
6:59
thank you
7:01
Also, Ms. O'Brien here with a couple of special announcements for your Wednesday.
7:06
That's the way that we keep Hillview a place where all of our students feel valued
7:11
and connected
7:12
is when we take care of folks in our Hillview family.
7:15
Now, some important updates for me.
7:19
Students, there's been information that's gone to your parents about our upcoming
7:24
Bell Schedule Pilot.
7:27
What this means for you.
7:29
is that starting on monday next week and for three three weeks
7:35
in a row we are going to have
7:37
an adjusted schedule on mondays and tuesdays so for the
7:42
next three weeks beginning on monday
7:44
mondays and tuesdays are going to be block days just
7:49
like wednesdays and thursdays so you'll
7:52
come on monday next week and go to your first period class for announcements like always
7:56
and then you'll have
7:57
a block period for your first period then we'll have brunch a block period for your third
8:02
period
8:03
then lunch and a block period for your fifth period and then seventh period like
8:09
we usually
8:09
have on a block day the two special classes that we are going to
8:14
have on monday and tuesday will
8:16
be at the very end of the day and it will be a class called impact impact is
8:21
a class that
8:22
every student will have on campus and
8:25
it will be used for a couple of different things. And before I
8:30
tell you about all the things that
8:32
we're going to use it for, I'm going to tell you a little bit about why we're doing something like
8:36
this. So what we noticed, for those of you eighth graders who were at Hillview
8:42
during our year that
8:43
we were week on, week off, right? That was 2021. That
8:49
was the school year 2021. So eighth graders,
8:51
it was your sixth grade year.
8:53
During that time, we had extended class periods with really small class sizes,
8:59
and we had
9:00
fewer classes per day, kind of like block days.
9:03
And what we did during those days is we had a period called smart period on campus
9:09
that
9:09
was a little bit of quest, and it was a little bit of community circles, social
9:15
emotional
9:15
learning, fun activities we could do together.
9:18
And what we're trying to, what we liked about that a lot.
9:21
lot was that we felt like we had a better connection with
9:27
teacher with between teachers
9:28
and students and we were able to get to know students in a different way and students were
9:33
able to get to know each other in a different way and we had time to do important things like
9:39
reassess or focus on things where you might have been struggling or push those
9:45
students who needed
9:45
an extra oomph to make sure they got all of the learning
9:50
that they needed and so what we're going to try out is a period on Mondays
9:55
and Tuesdays at the
9:56
end of the day called impact where we can try out some of those things in
10:01
a smaller group setting
10:02
so what we'd like to do and Mr. Lyons will tell you more about it on Tuesday
10:07
what we'd like to do during those periods is try out some social emotional
10:12
lessons
10:13
try out some whole school events try out
10:18
what it feels like to have an emergency drill during that class period try out what it
10:23
feels
10:23
like to look at our learner profiles during that class period try out what it feels
10:28
like to do some
10:29
of that reteaching and reassessment during those class periods because we
10:35
are looking at putting
10:36
together the very best bell schedule that meets all of your academic
10:41
learning needs and also meets
10:43
out all of our
10:46
Desires to be, to make sure students and staff feel valued, connected, and inspired.
10:51
To make sure we address the social emotional needs of everyone.
10:55
That we can talk about the important things that happen on campus in a small group.
11:01
That we can build community amongst each other.
11:04
We can learn to get to know our teachers and our students in different ways.
11:07
So, what that means is that Monday and Tuesday, starting next week, we'll
11:12
have a special schedule.
11:14
we'll have a new bell schedule for the next three weeks on those Mondays and Tuesdays.
11:19
So Mondays and Tuesday next week will be block days with this impact period last.
11:24
Mr. Lyons and I and Ms. Becker and your teachers, we're going to talk about this every day on
11:29
announcements.
11:30
You'll probably hear about this in some of your classes, so we make sure everyone knows where to
11:35
go.
11:35
We've been talking about this with your families.
11:38
There'll be more information about that impact period that I do.
11:42
just told you you got the information first students that will come to your families in
11:47
the
11:47
next day or two and all students will be emailed on Friday
11:52
and we'll let you know exactly when
11:55
where you will be going for that impact class so ask
12:01
us questions if you have any questions
12:03
but more information is to come and we are so excited that you will be helping us
12:08
design the
12:10
bell schedule for Hillview in the future. So thanks for that. All right Hawks, let's have a great
12:15
Wednesday.
12:38
Thanks for those announcements, Devin, Ella, Piper, Principal
12:43
O 'Brien, and Principal Lyons.
12:46
We have a new club starting on campus.
12:48
Join the Hillview Service Team, a student -run club on campus focused on working together
12:54
to do service projects
12:55
that help our community, country, and the world.
12:58
The first meeting is being held this Thursday at lunch in room B12.
13:02
The video shows some examples of what the Hillview Service Team...
13:06
did last year, working with parents and teachers.
13:09
We hope to do many more this year with more members.
13:23
Today's weather is a high of 74 and a low of 53.
13:26
It'll be hottest around 4 p.m.
13:29
Okay, it's that time.
13:30
It's the joke of the day.
13:32
Did you hear about the Italian chef who died?
13:34
He passed away.
13:38
Anyways, make it a great day or not, the choice is always yours.
